Acne Scarring
Acne scars are textural changes left behind after inflammatory acne heals. They include rolling, boxcar, and ice-pick types.
Signs
Depressed or raised areas, uneven skin surface, pitting, and textural irregularities where past breakouts occurred.
Causes
Inflammatory acne, cystic acne, picking or squeezing, delayed treatment, and genetic healing patterns.
Assessment
We classify scar type (ice-pick, boxcar, rolling, hypertrophic), assess depth and distribution, and review active acne status.
Treatment
Microneedling, fractional laser, chemical peels, subcision, PRP, and filler for individual scars. A series of treatments is typically needed.
