Melasma
Melasma causes brown or gray-brown patches, usually on the face. It is driven by hormones and sun and requires a gentle, long-term approach.
Signs
Symmetric brown or gray-brown patches on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, nose, or chin.
Causes
Hormonal changes (pregnancy, birth control), sun and heat exposure, genetics, and certain medications.
Assessment
We evaluate patch distribution, skin type, hormonal history, and sun habits to build a safe and effective plan.
Treatment
Topical agents (hydroquinone, tranexamic acid, azelaic acid), gentle chemical peels, and strict sun protection. Aggressive laser is generally avoided.
