Nasolabial folds -- also called smile lines -- run from the nose to the mouth corners. Deepening folds can make the face look tired.

Signs

Prominent creases from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth that deepen with time.

Causes

Midface volume loss, cheek descent, sun damage, genetics, and repeated facial movement.

Assessment

We evaluate fold depth, cheek volume, skin quality, and facial proportions.

Treatment

Dermal filler placed in the fold or cheek to restore lift. Skin tightening and resurfacing can improve surrounding texture.
