Chin Dimpling (Peau d'Orange)

Chin dimpling -- sometimes called peau d'orange -- is a pebbled texture caused by overactive mentalis muscle contraction.

Signs

An orange-peel or pebbled texture on the chin, especially when speaking or making certain expressions.

Causes

Overactivity of the mentalis muscle, aging, and thin skin over the chin.

Assessment

We observe the chin at rest and during animation to confirm mentalis involvement.

Treatment

Botox to the mentalis muscle smooths the chin surface. Filler may be added for volume-related irregularity.
